We started out the day working on subtraction. We used place value blocks to help us find the difference between numbers like 49 and 64. We found we could not start with 64 and take 49 away without trading in a group of 10 for 10 ones. We worked and worked and worked to see how to trade tens into ones. It is like going to your piggy bank and trading a dime for 10 pennies and adding that to the pennies you already have. After a lot of practice, we finally started to see it. Next week we will work on writing down exactly what we are doing so we can see it on paper with numbers.
We had many people passing off Mighty Math facts again. Yesterday and today the following people passed off these drills:
Brinn and Landon passed 2A for the first time.
Abbie passed 2B for the second and third time! On to 2C for her!
Carlie passed off 2C for the first and second time.
Danyale passed off 2B for the first time.
Jewel passed off 1C for the first and second time.
Stetler passed off 3A for the first and second time.
Larissa passed off 1C for the first time.
Congratulations! We are really moving along! If you haven't gotten 100% for a few weeks, try putting in a little bit extra practice for a few nights. You will get it!
Today we did an art project using our drawing skills and watercolors. We drew a ship like the ones Christopher Columbus used when he found the lands that he named America. We used watercolors to paint the ocean and the sky, along with the brown boats. We did a pretty good job. Mrs. Labrum didn't have her camera here at school, but she will take a picture soon and put it here for everyone to see. Come and check them all out on our bulletin board.
Mrs. Labrum did have time to add another one of our poems to our writing page. Check it out! Leave a comment if you are visiting this blog. We like to know who is interested in what we are doing. To leave a comment, click on the word "comment" under any post. It should bring up a window where you can write your comments. You don't need a blogger account to leave a comment, but we would like you to sign your name so we know who you are. Your comments will be saved for Mrs. Labrum to check out. When she approves your comments, it will be posted on the page. You can also click on the comments and read what other people are writing to us. Reading your comments will give us encouragement to write more ourselves, and to do better work. It is great to know someone cares enough to see what we are doing. Hope to hear from you!

Danyale, you are correct. I didn't get anything written yet today, or since last Friday. I will do it now. Thank you for your note. I will show it to the class today. I will miss seeing everyone during our break, also. I will use the time to get ready for the next week of school.
Your teacher,
Mrs. Labrum
