We Are Getting Better

After struggling to learn to be good listeners, we are finally getting there. We had Mrs. Bell come in and teach us a lesson about being good listeners. We practiced what we would do with our eyes, ears, voice, and body if we were really listening. Mrs. Labrum uses a timer on the computer that goes off at random times during the day. If we are showing good listening skills and doing as we should, she will pull a number out of the container and add it to the bingo board. When we get Bingo we win a reward. Mrs. Labrum owes us one because she was gone when we earned the reward.

We also have a chart that rewards individual people who are doing as they should. We each have a clothes pin with our student number on it. We can move the pins up or down the chart by doing as we should (move up), or doing something we should not do (move down). When our pin gets to the top of the chart we get a reward. If we get clear to the bottom of the chart we miss a recess and have a talk with Mrs. Labrum. Any adult in the room can tell us to move our clip. It seems to be helping us remember to do what we should.

We have had several more people pass off Mighty Math levels: Jasa moves to 2A, Tyler needs one more on 1B, Payton moved to 1C, Landon passed 1C for the first time yesterday, Abbie bot 100% on 2A, Jace passed off 1C, Rylan is now on 2A, Ricky is on 2A, Hunter got 100% on 1C for the second time, And Stetler and Samantha have both moved up to 2B! Congratulations to everyone for studying so hard.

Today we took our first math test and it was kind of hard. We really have to think in a different way with these math questions.

Busy Friday and Monday

Print-outs went home on Friday. I hope everyone looked at them. Students also wrote in their "Go-Home-Journals." If parents didn't see them, please ask for them. It is important that students receive feed-back on their weekly work.

Spellings tests that were given on Friday came home today. Please go over these with your child. This week's spelling words are different ways to spell the long-a sound and one way to spell short-a sounds. Students should practice sorting the words into the different spelling patterns. Learning the spelling patterns will help them apply spelling rules to new words. We practiced sorting the words and learned the spelling rule today in class. The test on Friday will have students writing the words in the correct groups and spelling them correctly. There will also be a few (2-3)sentences to write.

Mighty math achievers for Friday included: Payton, Jace, Rylan, and Stetler. Today the following students passed their drill: Payton, Jasa, Tyler, Rylan, Ricky, Stetler, and Sierra. Sierra passed off level 1B, and Abbie passed off Level 1C. Congratulations!
