Reward Day

Mrs. Labrum gave the class a reward today because they have been so patient with all the testing we did. We also finished reading one of Mrs. Labrum's favorite books, The Wizard of Oz. She has read this to her class every year for about 20 years. So, as a reward, we watched the movie. We found out that the book is much better than the movie. There were many things in the book that were not in the movie. We were waiting to see the hammberheads and the Kalidahs but they weren't there! It would have been fun to see the Scarecrow stuck on the pole in the middle of the river. We will just have to use our imagination and visualize it ourselves. Visualizing is a good reading strategy.

We are now reading Because of Winn-Dixie". We are really enjoying this story.

How Hot Does it Get?

We measured the temperature of water when it had been in the sunshine for a while. We had two pans the same size but one was painted white and the other was black. We also had two silver pans, but one was deep and the other was flatter. We took the temperatures in all four pans at the same time so the air temperature was the same. We found out that we need more practice in reading a thermometer because we didn't get really good readings. Which pans do you think were warmer? Why? Click on the comments link and give us your ideas.

These pictures weren't very good because of the bright light outside. But try to enjoy them anyway!

Testing 1, 2, 3

This week we are taking the national IOWA test. This test is given to all students in grades 3, 5, and 8. It is a test that is timed, which means we only get a certain amount of time to complete each part. Some of us finish in the time given, and some of us do not. It can be a very difficult test for some. We have been working on the reading part of the test. Even though there is a lot of reading, most students are doing a very fine job.
We have also had many more students pass off Mighty Math:
Tyler passed level 1B and moved to 1C.
Landon passed level 1C and moved to 2A.
Nick pass 1B for the first time.
Abbie passed 2A and moved to 2B just today!
Jenna passed 1B for the second time. One more time, Jenna!
Rylan got 100% for the first time on 2A.
Danyale got 100% for the first time on 1C.
Stetler is now on 2C and has passed it twice.
Hunter finished level 1C and is now working on 2A.
Congratulations to all who passed a drill. Keep working to memorize these basic math facts.
