We had our first fire drill of the year. Students did a pretty good job of exiting the building and lining up properly. Good job!
Today we learned how to write a k in cursive. We now know l, h, and k. Some students are showing very beautiful handwriting. Way to go!
Abbie and Stettler got 100% again on their math drill. Only one more to go and they move up to the next drill. Many others are getting close to finishing. Keep practicing and you will get move up.
We played a game in math called "Name That Number." It really helps students practice their math facts. I will send home the instructions for you to play together. You can count it as fact practice each night. You might need to create your own deck of cards because students use cards from 0-20. Simply get index cards and write the numbers on them.
I understand many boys are going to a baseball tournament this weekend. Good luck! Those who are going camping, have fun! Enjoy the last holiday before fall.

Mighty Math
Today we had two students pass their first Mighy Math drill! Congratulations to Stetler and Abbie for getting 100% today. I hope we have many more in the near future. Keep practicing and you will soon pass to the next level.
Many students are taking Accelerated Reader quizzes. Many are getting very good scores. Remember to read carefully and get a picture in your mind (visualize) what is happening in the story. This will help you get a better score. Read slowly enough to remember the details. Keep up the great work.

We Are Really Working Hard
Today we learned that our new math program has us working hard. We reviewed telling time, using a ruler, and used calculators, all in the same day! We really had to work hard. It has been a little bit difficult to listen so much in third grade, but the students are trying hard. They are learning that third grade has lots to do. Many students have taken an accelerated reader test on a book they have read. Keep up the good work! Tomorrow we will start reading in our reading book. I am sure the students will like the story. We will also start working on more writing. Be prepared for a fun week.
