Fun with Math

We have been having so much with this math unit. We made shapes using straws and twist-ties so we could learn to measure the lengths of the sides. We learned how to find the perimeter by using the geoboards, but we couldn't find all the different ways to make a perimeter of 12, 14, and 16 with the geoboards we had. Mrs. Labrum them gave us some dot paper and we were able to draw the shapes and figure out the perimeters we needed. When we found the pattern with the numbers it all became so much easier. Did you know that if you find the lengths of two sides of a rectangle you can find the perimeter by adding that length twice? You only have to measure two sides and you can find the perimeter! We are so smart! I wonder what fun things we will do tomorrow in math?

The 200 Club

Today we had an assembly where we learned about the 200 Club. To get your name on the 200 club board you need to be doing what you are supposed to be doing when you are supposed to be doing it. Teachers can give out a few tickets each day for those who are doing the right things. Those with tickets will get their name on one of the numbered squares on the board. When there are 10 names in a row, those ten students will get a prize. The more times you get your name on the board, the better the chance of you getting a prize.

To get tickets we need to remember to follow the school procedures for hallways, breakfast, lunch, moving to other places, doing our schoolwork, and many other classroom procedures. This might help us remember to always be doing what we should be doing.

We Made the Paper!

Did you all see the article about our class in the Emery County Progress? We made the front page. There is a very nice picture of one of our students working on her owl pellet.
