Rainy Thursday

It rained great big drops today! What a pretty rainstorm. We didn't go outside for lunch recess because of the rain. It was very hard to concentrate on our work.

Math was hard with lots of adding money on our calculators. We learned how to figure out how much we saved if we bought things on sale.

As we read The Ballad of Mulan, we looked for clues the author wrote that told us how the people felt. Finding clues helps us make 'inferences." That means using our thinking to use the clue to figure out what the author doesn't say right out in words. We can figure out peoples feelings, or events that have happened.

We watched a cute movie about the sun. The sun is the closest star to Earth. As Earth turns around the sun shines on the part that is facing the sun. The other part of the Earth is in the dark. That is what makes day and night.

Mighty Math drills were passed off by Abbie, Samantha, Ricky, and Stetler. Stetler now moves on to 2B. Keep those practice papers coming in!

Hard Work

Today we had lots of work to do. In Math we were working with money. We learned that sometimes we need to ESTIMATE to see if we have enough money to buy something. Sometimes we needs the EXACT cost of items. We were working on this all mornng.
We learned about four types of sentences. Statements and commands end with periods. Questions end with a questions mark, and exclamations ends with exclamation marks.
We went to the library to check out more books.
We are listening to Mrs. Labrum read "The Wizard of Oz." There are many parts in the story that are not in the movie. Some of us need to work on our listening skills.
Abbie, Samantha, Stetler, and Sierra got 100% on their Mighty Math. Six people got finished. Our record of finishers is seven. Work hard so our record reaches higher.

Springville Art Museum

Today we had fun learning about art from a lady who came from the Springville Art Museum. In the morning we saw two original pieces of art, and many prints of other beautiful artwork. We learned about the different types of art. We learned that still life is a painting or drawing of an object. We learned what artists do to create different moods and feelings. After lunch we went to the gym and learned about drawing portraits. We even tried our own drawings. Each student got a chance to be a model for us. We did a pretty good job! We enjoyed learning about drawing.

When we read our story about Mulan today, we looked at the drawings in our book. There is a lot of details in the drawings.

Today in math we reviewed counting money. It was a little bit hard to decided the difference between what we pay and what an item costs.

Brinn passed off all of Level 1B, and Hunter got 100% on 1C. Many students are getting more finished every day. Keep working!

Update From Yesterday

Yesterday four students passed off a mighty math drill: Stetler, Carlie, Brinn, and Danyale. Way to practice! Mrs. Labrum will write more after school today. We had a busy day and had lots of fun. More details coming!

Expected Behaviors

Today we learned why the magical sound happens during our classtime. When we hear the sound, Mrs. Labrum looks around to see if we are showing good learning behaviors. If we are ALL doing as we should she pulls a number out of a container and puts it on a BINGO card. When we get four numbers in a row we get a reward that doesn't cost money nor takes a lot of preparation. So far we have three numbers in a row. Maybe tomorrow we will get a classroom reward. Showing good learning behaviors means: EYES, EARS, VOICE and BODY doing what is expected. We learned the expectations last week with Mrs. Bell. Now we just need to remember to do it. We are getting better!
